Our Staircases

Bespoke Craftsmanship

Every Staircase We Build Is Unique

From the very first site survey through to final installation, every staircase we manufacture is designed and built to your exact specification. With over four decades of joinery expertise, we combine traditional hand-crafted techniques with precision CNC machinery to deliver staircases that are structurally sound, beautifully finished, and built to last a lifetime. Whether you favour a classic cut string in solid oak or a contemporary open riser with frameless glass, our workshop in Poole brings your vision to life.

Cut string oak staircase with black balustrade

The Classic Choice

Cut String

The cut string staircase is the most popular and enduring design in British joinery. The outer string is cut to follow the profile of each tread and riser, creating a beautifully stepped silhouette visible from the side. This elegant detail transforms a functional element into an architectural feature, adding character and value to any hallway.

  • Treads visible from the side, creating an elegant stepped profile
  • Our most popular design - suits period and modern properties alike
  • Available in hardwood or softwood with a full range of balustrade options
  • Precision-machined joints for a seamless, enduring finish

Light and Airy

Open Riser

Open riser staircases omit the vertical boards between each tread, allowing light to flow freely through the structure. The result is a staircase that feels weightless and contemporary - perfect for modern homes where visual space is at a premium. Each tread appears to float, creating a striking focal point that is as sculptural as it is functional.

  • No risers between treads - light passes through the staircase
  • Creates a sense of openness in compact hallways and stairwells
  • Ideally suited to contemporary and open-plan living spaces
  • Fully compliant with current UK building regulations

Premium Finish

Glass Balustrade

Frameless or semi-frameless toughened glass panels replace traditional spindles, delivering maximum light transmission with minimal visual obstruction. The effect is dramatic - your staircase becomes a showcase of clean lines and contemporary refinement. Paired with solid timber handrails and newels, glass balustrades bring a premium, architectural quality to any home.

  • 10mm toughened safety glass - frameless or with discrete clamps
  • Maximum light flow - ideal for darker hallways and landings
  • Combined with oak or painted timber handrails and newels

Classic British Craft

Timber Spindles

Traditional turned or square-section spindles remain one of the most enduring choices in British staircase design. Whether you prefer the warmth of natural oak, the richness of walnut, or the crisp finish of painted softwood, timber spindles offer timeless elegance that complements properties of every era. Each spindle is machined to exacting tolerances for a perfect fit.

  • Turned or square profiles - dozens of designs to choose from
  • Available in oak, walnut, ash, or painted softwood
  • Period-correct designs for listed buildings and conservation areas
  • Matching handrails, newels, and caps available from stock

Industrial Modern

Metal Spindles

Contemporary metal balusters bring an industrial-modern edge to your staircase without sacrificing warmth. Slender steel or wrought iron spindles are combined with solid timber handrails and newel posts to create a design that bridges traditional craftsmanship and modern aesthetics. Available in a range of finishes - from satin black to brushed nickel - they add a refined contrast to the natural grain of the timber.

  • Steel or wrought iron in satin black, chrome, or brushed nickel
  • Paired with timber handrails and newels for a warm contrast
  • Slender profiles that maximise sightlines and light
  • Straight or curved designs to suit any staircase geometry

Responsibly Sourced

Timbers We Work With

Every species has its own character. We will help you choose the right timber for your project - balancing grain, colour, durability, and budget.

Oak

Rich golden grain with exceptional durability. Our most popular hardwood, prized for its warm colour and natural character.

Walnut

Deep chocolate tones with striking figured grain. A premium choice for statement staircases that demand sophistication.

Ash

Pale, clean-grained hardwood with excellent shock resistance. A lighter alternative to oak with a crisp, Scandinavian feel.

Sapele

Reddish-brown African hardwood with an interlocked grain that catches the light beautifully. Excellent value for a premium look.

Deal

Traditional softwood, ideal for painted finishes. Cost-effective and widely used across the UK for primed and painted staircases.

Hemlock

Fine, even-grained softwood with a smooth finish. Often chosen for its clean appearance when a natural softwood look is desired.
